I've been away for a few days because we've been having problems connecting to the internet at home. We needed a new modem. Its amazing how fast the summer is going. Jennifer and I have been planning to go up to Devil's Lake State Park on July 2nd and sure enough we did--and its hard to believe its July 3rd already!
It's amazing--considering the vast, flat, midwestern geography of Chicago, that one can travel a couple of hours and soak in the beauty of God's nature:
This is what we came upon after walking uphill on pretty much a tree-filled, steep incline. You come out into this open cliff overlooking the lake as well as being able to see outside the park. It is absolutely stunning. I know, for those of you who live in California, Colorado, or other beautiful areas this may not measure up, but hey for the midwest, this is breathtaking.
Jennifer came over Wednesday night and stayed over night. We packed up the car and around 8:00 a.m. While I was driving, she read portions of Deerskin to me.
When we arrived we took a walk on the tumbled rocks trail:
We then went up to the West Bluff trail (the previous pics).
After that, we ended up visiting Parfrey's Glen. The beauty here was stunning. Our pictures just do not justice:
We walked up this creek into this canyon with walls up to a hundred feet high. Almost a mile in, you end up at this small waterfall. Its quite a contrast from to the Chicago suburbs.
Even as a westcoaster, I'd say this is beautiful.

Reminds me of Glacier National Park here in Montana!
