Had a great day with Jennifer in Chicago on Saturday. Jen and I spent most the day in the city hanging out before and after the late afternoon game. When the weather is good and the sun is out, there is nothing in the midwestern United States like taking a walk along Lake Michigan. Wrigley Field was quite an experience. We had some good seats--we sat in what they call the outfield box seats which were down the 3rd base side just beyond the bullpen about 15 rows up. We had a nice view of the entire field.
Jen really enjoyed the park and the game.
One of the highlights was a foul ball that came about two rows away from us. It was pretty close. It was a hard hit fly ball and the first fan who had a chance to catch it dropped the ball. He did not get to keep the ball but he was showing everyone the deep redness in his palm from the ball.
The one huge negative thing about Wrigley Field is that your beer options are extremely limited--like either Old Style or Budweiser--and pricey. Oy. Beer of course, is always overpriced at ball parks but then to charge that cash for Old Style or Bud is just not right. Some of the effects from the Fall I assume--selling Old Style and Bud at Wrigley Field. I could buy a four pack of Guinness for what Wrigley sells for one Old Style.
Jen has been to a couple of other ball parks but she said by far this was the best park she has been to (pictures to come!). I felt the odds were pretty good that even though she was not a baseball fan, she would enjoy the wonderful charm of Wrigley. She likes getting into the cultural experiences so she had a hot dog. After a Cubs win, the song, "Go Cubs Go" is played over the speakers and the entire crowd sings along. Even an hour after the game ended, as we were walking to our car, Jen was singing the "Go Cubs Go" song. Yes, the Cubs did win the game!!!
